Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix of both)
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven: Set it to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. If it’s pre-rolled, just unroll it gently.
- Spread Dijon mustard (optional): If you’re using Dijon mustard, spread a thin layer evenly over the puff pastry. This adds a nice zing to the flavor.
- Add the cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the surface of the pastry, making sure to leave a small border around the edges. If you’re using Parmesan or fresh herbs, sprinkle those on top as well.
- Season: Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
- Roll the pastry: Carefully roll the puff pastry sheet up like a log, starting from one edge to the other. Try to make it as tight as possible without tearing the pastry.
- Slice the roll: Cut the rolled pastry into about 1-inch wide pinwheels.
- Egg wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the pinwheels for a golden finish when baked.
- Bake: Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a little apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they’re golden and puffed up.
- Serve: Let them cool slightly before serving, and enjoy your cheesy, flaky pinwheels!
These are perfect for a snack, party appetizer, or even as a light lunch. You can also experiment with different types of cheese or add some cooked ham, spinach, or other fillings for variety. Enjoy!
