🥐 Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels (Mediterranean Style)
Ingredients
Puff Pastry Base

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Filling

120 g ham (chicken or turkey ham works well), thinly sliced

1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella, Gruyère, or Emmental)

2 tablespoons cream cheese or ricotta
-
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

½ teaspoon dried oregano
-
½ teaspoon dried thyme
-
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Finishing
-
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon sesame seeds or nigella seeds (optional)

Fresh parsley or basil, finely chopped (optional)
Instructions

Prep the Pastry
Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. -
Spread the Base
Brush lightly with olive oil. Spread cream cheese (or ricotta) evenly over the pastry. Add Dijon mustard if using. -
Add Filling
Layer ham evenly over the pastry. Sprinkle cheese, oregano, thyme, and black pepper. -
Roll & Slice
Roll the pastry tightly into a log. Chill for 10–15 minutes for cleaner cuts. Slice into 1–1.5 cm pinwheels. -
Bake
Arrange pinwheels cut-side up. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle seeds if desired.
Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden. -
Serve
Garnish with fresh herbs. Serve warm or at room temperature.
