500 g (1 lb) ground beef (80/20 or lean)

1 small onion, finely grated

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

¼ cup breadcrumbs or oat crumbs

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

½ tsp paprika

½ tsp dried oregano (Mediterranean touch)

Salt & black pepper, to taste

2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
Onion Gravy

2 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
1 large onion, thinly sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp flour (or cornstarch for gluten-free)

1½ cups beef broth (low sodium)

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
-
½ tsp thyme or oregano
-
Black pepper, to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Hamburger Steaks

In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Mix gently (don’t overwork).

Form into 4 oval patties.
2️⃣ Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned.

Remove and set aside.
3️⃣ Make the Onion Gravy

In the same skillet, add olive oil/butter and sliced onions.

Cook 8–10 minutes until soft and caramelized.

Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.

Sprinkle in flour, stir, and cook 1 minute.

Slowly whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire, thyme, and pepper.

Simmer until thickened.
4️⃣ Finish

Return hamburger steaks to the skillet.

Spoon gravy over the top.

Simmer 8–10 minutes until tender and juicy.
