🎄 Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread

🛒 Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup sugar (or ½ cup sugar + ¼ cup honey)

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • ⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil (or melted butter)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Zest of 1 orange or lemon

Festive Add-Ins

  • ⅓ cup Christmas sprinkles (jimmies work best)

  • 1 tbsp flour (to coat sprinkles)

Optional Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tbsp orange or lemon juice


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Pan

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).

  2. Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.


2️⃣ Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.


3️⃣ Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, olive oil, vanilla, and citrus zest until smooth.


4️⃣ Combine

  1. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients.

  2. Stir gently until just combined—do not overmix.

  3. Toss sprinkles with 1 tbsp flour, then fold into batter.


5️⃣ Bake

  1. Pour batter into prepared pan.

  2. Sprinkle extra sprinkles on top (optional).

  3. Bake 45–50 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.


6️⃣ Cool & Glaze

  1. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack.

  2. Drizzle with citrus glaze once fully cooled.

  • Slice and serve warm with honey butter

  • Wrap in parchment for edible gifts

  • Toast slices and serve with mascarpone or ricotta
