Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped, or 1 tablespoon dried)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread Tomato Paste:
    • Evenly spread the tomato paste over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Add Cheese and Parsley:
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the tomato paste.
    • Sprinkle the chopped parsley on top of the cheese.
    • Season with a little salt and pepper if desired.
  5. Form the Spirals:
    • Starting from one edge, carefully roll the puff pastry sheet into a tight log or cylinder.
    • Slice the rolled pastry into approximately 1-inch wide pieces to form spirals.
  6. Prepare for Baking:
    • Place the spiral pieces cut-side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
  7. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the spirals are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the spirals to cool slightly before serving.
