A crunchy, protein-packed snack that’s perfect for when you’re craving something salty but want a healthier option. I usually keep a can of chickpeas in the pantry specifically for this recipe because it’s quick, affordable, and surprisingly satisfying.
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
- Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Place the chickpeas in the air fryer basket and cook at 390°F (200°C) for 2 minutes to help dry them further.
- Remove and toss with olive oil and seasonings.
- Return to the air fryer and cook at 390°F for 12–15 minutes, shaking the basket every 4–5 minutes.
- Continue cooking until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool for a few minutes—they’ll become even crunchier as they cool.
Flavor Ideas
- Ranch: Ranch seasoning blend
- Spicy: Cayenne pepper and chili powder
- BBQ: Smoked paprika, garlic powder, and brown sugar
- Everything Bagel: Everything bagel seasoning
- Sweet Cinnamon: Cinnamon and a touch of maple sugar
Why They’re a Great Healthy Snack
- High in plant-based protein
- Good source of fiber
- Naturally gluten-free
- More filling than chips or crackers
- Easy to customize with different seasonings
One extra tip: if you want maximum crunch, remove any loose skins from the chickpeas after drying them. It takes a minute or two, but the texture is often even crispier afterward.
