🥙 Mediterranean Chicken Gyros with Homemade Tzatziki

🛒 Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 600 g chicken thighs or breasts, thinly sliced

  • 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

  • 3 tbsp plain Greek yogurt

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1½ tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp ground cumin

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp salt


Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 cup thick Greek yogurt

  • 1 medium cucumber, grated

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely grated

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1½ tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp fresh dill or mint, chopped (optional)


Gyro Wraps

  • 4–6 pita breads

  • Sliced tomatoes

  • Sliced red onion

  • Shredded lettuce (optional)

  • Crumbled feta (optional)


🔪 Instructions

1. Marinate the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, paprika, cumin, pepper, and salt.

  2. Add chicken and coat well.

  3. Cover and marinate at least 30 minutes (up to overnight for best flavor).


2. Make Tzatziki

  1. Squeeze excess water from grated cucumber.

  2. Mix cucumber with yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and herbs.

  3. Chill until ready to use.


3. Cook the Chicken

  • Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

  • Cook chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.


4. Warm Pitas

  • Warm pita breads briefly in a dry pan or oven.


5. Assemble Gyros

  • Spread tzatziki on pita.

  • Add chicken, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and feta.

  • Roll and serve warm.
